Cashless payments innovators Koin and Marker Trax, both helmed by CEO Gary Ellis, have hired Mark D. Hemmerle as their chief legal officer.
As the two sister companies continue to introduce their groundbreaking cashless technology to more markets and operators around the country, Hemmerle fills a vital need in helping company leaders navigate and advise on important legal and compliance matters.
Through two decades of executive leadership and compliance counsel roles with Shift4Payments, Vantiv/Worldpay, Hyatt Grand Victoria Casino and others, he has built a reputation for helping companies align on-the-ground tactics with long-term strategies and implementing effective compliance protocols.
“Mark’s expertise lies uniquely at the intersection of emerging technologies and navigating complex compliance issues – aptitudes that align perfectly with the innovations we’re implementing in the industry,” said Koin President Gary Larkin. “Koin intends to continue leading the conversation on the evolution of cashless payments, and we’re fortunate to have Mark on board in pursuit of that goal.”
Hemmerle attended the University of Cincinnati, earning a degree in economics. He earned a law degree from the University of Denver College of Law, and subsequently pursued graduate work at the university’s School of International Studies. Additionally, he completed the University of Nevada, Reno’s Executive Development Program in gaming, and has presented at numerous industry events, including the National Council of Legislators from Gaming States, the Global Gaming Expo and others. Hemmerle is also Trustee on the Board of the International Association of Gaming Advisors.
“Revolutionizing the gaming landscape, our unique cashless casino credit product stands out as an unparalleled accomplishment in the industry. Mark’s unique combination of gaming expertise and legal acumen makes him a key figure in guiding our company through this phase of exceptional growth and the national deployment of our new B2C brand Moolah Play,” said Marker Trax President Charlie Skinner.
Both Koin and Marker Trax grew their operations and presence throughout the country in 2023, bringing cashless credit and digital wallet solutions to new markets, from Philadelphia to Northern Nevada. The momentum should carry over into 2024, with Hemmerle’s leadership making that growth both seamless and more efficient.
